Being a Young Inventor is about foundational skills development and cooperative learning.

The first 5 minutes of each class is focused on memorization of things like ohms law and the metric system. We then transition to hands-on exercises such as soldering, 3D printer operation, and other basic workshop skills. At about 30 minutes in, students transition to creative time. This is where they work independently or in small groups. We have a rotating selection of activities they can choose from. During this time, students may also engage with the teacher as they work on a Mission Team related project.

Finally, at some point in each class, students are prompted to check data coming in from our gardens. They record the data along with visual inspections of plant growth in their project journals. As a transitional event, this only takes five minutes. We use this to teach them the power of recording and interpreting data over time.
